The First Transoral Robotic surgery took place in Greece with absolute success at the “Athens Medical Center” due to the new da Vinci Si HD System.
It’s the newest robotic surgery system in Greece and one of the few operating in the world as we speak.
The Transoral Robotic surgery (T.O.R.S.) was carried out by Dr Konstantinos Konstantinidis MD, PhD, FACS, Chairman, Department of General, Laparoscopic, Bariatric & Robotic Surgery Athens Medical Center and Dr Georgio Voila, otolaryngologist surgeon at the Athens Medical Center.
The patient, a 52 year old man, underwent a resection of a solid mass from the epiglottis just above the vocal cords. For the best and safest result of the surgery, tile pro was used, a navigational system that provided only by the new da Vinci Si HD system.
The patient was hospitalized for less than twenty four hours.
Benefits for the patient:
• Minimally invasive surgery
• Minimal aftersurgery pain
• Minimal hospitalization
• Fast recovery and return to daily routine
Benefits for the doctor:
• Absolute precision
• Dexterity and range of motion
• Three dimensional with up to x10 magnification and an immersive view of the operative field
• Enhanced high definition 3D vision for superior clinical capability
“With this newly refined da Vinci Surgical System Si H.D. that was acquired and operates in our hospital, new ways are opened to the horizon of robotic surgery. Since 2006 with the first da Vinci system operating in Greece, doctors are able to perform General Surgical, Urological, Gynecological and Pediatric procedures. Today was the first time we took a step further by making possible otolaryngological surgeries. All these innovations aim to the best possible safe surgical results for the patient and their fast recovery” Dr K. Konstantinidis stated.
